THE COMPANY

Inkey Media was established in 2015. Founded by Dena Curtis, Inkey Media produces factual, documentary and drama television content for both domestic and international audiences. In 2018, Inkey Media was a recipient of Screen Australia Indigenous Department's Sector Development Grant to support business development and in 2020, received Screen Queensland's Enterprise for slate development.

Facilitating Screen Australia's Indigenous Producer Initiative in 2019 - a national program developing ten Indigenous emerging producers. The program included four face-to-face workshops, a year long producer mentor, attendance of Screen Forever and AIDC, pitching opportunities and a three to six month placement at a production company of their choice.

Inkey Media also produced short film Walter's Ghost, which screened at Maoriland Film Festival, CineFest Oz and Winda Film Festival. In 2019, Inkey Media developed and produced Chantelle Murray's Short film Shed for ABC, the film also premiered at Sydney Film Festival.

Inkey Media has partnered with other production companies such as WildBear Entertainment - having co-produced feature documentary Ella and NITV's 4x30min ghost hunter series Shadow Trackers and Magpie Pictures, where company director Dena Curtis produced award winning live action Children's Series Grace Beside Me.




DENA CURTIS

Producer and Company Director



A Warrumungu, Warlpiri and Arrernte woman from Central Australia, Dena Curtis is a writer, director, and producer. She began her media training in Tennant Creek at Papulu Apparr Kari Language Centre. In 2000, she relocated to Alice Springs to work as the Production Assistant at CAAMA Productions. A self- taught editor, Dena studied a graduate diploma in Television Editing at AFTRS in 2002. On completion of this diploma, she returned to CAAMA Productions and worked as an Editor and Production Coordinator for a number of years. Editing credits include Rosalie’s Journey, Lore of Love and Willaberta Jack.


Throughout her career, Dena has worked at National Indigenous Television as a Senior Promo Producer and Editor, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation as the Series Producer of Message Sticks then later a Commissioning Editor for Indigenous overseeing development and production on The Darkside, Yagan, 88, Buckskin, The Redfern Story, Outside Chance and Wild Kitchen.


Based in Brisbane, Queensland, Dena established her production company Inkey Media. Passionate about First Nations, Queer and female stories Inkey Media develops and produces a slate of Factual and Drama content, championing authenticity, inclusion, and diversity.


As part of Dena’s commitment to developing the industry, she has been a part of many development workshops with first time filmmakers as a mentor and facilitator. Facilitating Screen Australia’s Indigenous Producer Program – a national initiate aimed at developing emerging Indigenous producers and Screen Works Creating and Sharing Stories FNQ Initiative – a 6-month workshop that supported and developed first time and emerging First Nation filmmakers in Far North Queensland.


Her directing credits include award-winning short films Hush, Jacob and Nan and a Whole Lot of Trouble. Comedy series, 8MMM Aboriginal Radio, documentary series’, Shadow Trackers, Colour Theory Underground, Children’s Series, Thalu and two episodes of ABC’s factual series Back to Nature. Most recently Dena directed a chapter of the anthology feature We Are Still Here and feature length documentary A League of Her Own.


Her producing credits include Logie nominated Children’s Television Series, Grace Beside Me, Short Films Walters Ghost and Shed and documentaries Ella, Shadow Trackers and Belonging. Dena co-produced Firebite for See-Saw Films/AMC Network and is Producer of ABC’s First Nations Science Series First Weapons, and Executive Producer for Rebel with a Cause – a 4x1hr documentary series for NITV.
